About us

Originally founded as New Canaan Ski and Sport in 1976 by John Alberino.

John and Susan Alberino had one mission in mind when they opened New Canaan Ski and Sport: provide the highest level of customer service while offering the finest outdoor products available. In October 2012 after 36 years of service, Susan closed the doors in New Canaan and passed the torch to her children Pam and Gio who opened a new location in Westport on the Post Road, next to the Sherwood Diner. Here you will continue to find the same tradition, quality and service that kept their customers coming back year after year and generation after generation. Simply stated, “At Ski and Sport we take your play seriously!”

Pam hit the slopes at 18 months and has been on them ever since. She attended the Green Mountain Valley School near her ski house at Sugarbush, VT and pursued her racing career. After attending Fairfield University, Pam left ski racing and began a career in Free Style and Mogul skiing. During this seven-year stint Pam went to the US National Noram Events and the World Cup qualifiers. After a career ending injury, Pam turned her love of the sport to New Canaan Ski and Sport and now Ski and Sport of Westport. Whether it is testing a new product on snow, or viewing the latest fashion and technical gear, Pam is always at the top of her game.

Gio has been heading down the mountain since age 2. He started competing in freestyle skiing events at thirteen years old and had an inseparable passion for skiing the bumps and catching air. He graduated from Killington Mountain School, KMS, where he competed in high level freestyle skiing events specializing in moguls and aerials all over the United States and Canada. After the Academy, Gio moved out west and skied for Team Breck along with his sister and world-renowned competitors like Evan Dybvig, Alex Wilson and Jeremy Bloom. After retiring from competitive skiing, Gio went the education route and headed to school. A graduate from Northeastern University in Boston, Gio joined the Ski and Sport team and opened the second location in Ridgefield. He is still passionate about the mountains, and hits the hills every chance he can utilizing the latest technology and gear.

Pam, Gio and their team live for the outdoors. They know their sports and were raised on skis. Stop by or call and give them an opportunity to demonstrate their vast knowledge and expertise to you.
